Massage Oils and Scents

Rachel asked about oils and stuff.... so I thought I would start a new thread for it.

I really like sweet almond oil as a massage oil base. It has a really good consistancy. I do like to mix oils as well. The massage oil that I sell is Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernal, Grape Seed, Johoba, Vit. E and 100% pure essential oils.

Scents are kind of a personal thing. Depends on what you like. Usually you want to aim for a 2% dilution..... which in a 4 oz. bottle of oil is like 25-40 drops... depending on how heavy you want the scent. Some scents are also stronger than others, so start off light, mix, smell and add more as needed. It is really important to make sure that you are using essential oils and not fragrance oils. Fragrance oils can cause allergies, break down easily and I've even had them make the other oils go rancid.

Have fun and happy oil making. Think of your intentions while you are making your products. You can also pick your essential oils according to those purposes too. I have a list of the magical and spiritual uses of herbs in the files section on the yahoo group. Those meanings also apply to the essential oils.

Love and Light,

I don't believe that the base oil would affect your magick or intent... but others may feel differently. I think it is just a matter of preference. Different bases have different light scents and textures. You just need to find one that suits your tastes.. so to speak. I like the sweet almond, because it is light and a good consistancy for massage, bath oil, and annointing oil.

I use the essential oils for the magick and intention part.

You can order wholesale without a business if you order your stuff with me. Sometimes I need stuff and don't have enough cash on hand or need enough to reach a minimum order.. so it always helps to have others who need things. You just pay the cost and your part of the shipping.

I get my beeswax wholesale from either trinityherb.com or liberty natural.com. It depends on who is carrying it cheaper at the time. The quality seems the same to me. If you only need a little bit.... I have a ton in stock right now... I melt some of it down and then store it in the freezer in ice cubes for easy use in making my creams... like we did today... or balms and salves.

If we can work and have fun like we did today... I'm sure we can squeeze in candlemaking. I have tons of stuff upstairs for doing it. Anyone else interested in making candles... have old wax they've been collecting... or jars.. cool tea cups or anything that would make cool candle holders?

I have about 3-4 cases of empty seven day and/or 3 day candle holders, a bunch of paraffin, some old candle leftovers I've saved, some holders and wicks, and I think a couple of colorants. As you know... I have enough essential oils to do almost anything you would want... but not as many as someone else, as we saw today. LOL

I'd be willing to do a candle making workshop at my house if a few people are interested in learning and taking home stuff.

That scent was a combo of the sweet almond, beeswax, lanolin, and aloe gel.... Each one separately smells pretty good to me... well maybe not the lanolin.... but togther they just have that smell... Once the essential oil is in though... it smells great and is so good for you skin.

People use olive oil, apricot kernal, grape seed, all sorts of stuff. Depends on how thick or thin or tasty you like your oil.

I know people who use the cat cans.... yuck. I never thought of the metal melting. Wow. I have actual glass candle holders. Like 7 days and 3 days. I only have a little bit of wick left, so we'll have to buy some. I'll let you know how things go... with it being so warm now. We might want to put off the heat of candle making till September.

Sounds like it might work... but try putting some baking soda in with them first to see if you can get the smell out. It still might absorb into the candle wax. MMMMMM' good. Pickle scented candles. LOL
