Shamanic Journeys and Power Animals

Since some of us have been chatting a bit about Shamanism and I'll also be doing my classes on journeying, I thought this might be a cool place to start.
So questions about journeys and power animals, talking about your personal experiences, etc... open for discussion and learning on the topic.

I've been practicing shamanic techniques for about 12 years now. I was first introduced to healing techniques and very quickly to journeywork. I guess with journeying it kind of seemed like my imagination at first, but then rather quickly, it became real. It's kind of like second nature. Now I know that it doesn't matter if it is real, imagined, or whatever... just that you get something from the experience. At first I always needed someone else or a cd to drum or rattle for me. Now, I can do it and journey at the same time. I quite often journey without anything, just getting info quickly while walking or driving or whatever. I lead larger groups on journeys and am able to be aware of how everyone is doing by just kind of journeying with them. (That part is hard to explain in words, it's an experiencial thing.) Teaching just evolved itself into my life. I never quite intended it to do so, it just happened and I've gone along with the flow. I learn so much from each and every person I come in contact with, whether that is a quick conversation in the store, that they attend a class, or that they study with me.

The animals that I'm personally working with right now are Hawk, Deer, Dragonfly, and Florida Panther/Cougar. Bringing messages, gentleness, seeing through illusion, and strength into my life. Lots of other aspects too.
Hawk helps me to clear a path to my goals and brings messages to those whom I am about to approach about new ideas as well as carrying messages back to me and helping me to see things from a broader, different perspective.
Panther helps me to be strong and keep up my self esteem. To remind me that there is power in everything I do and think. Also about stealthness.
Deer reminds me to use power with gentleness, to just BE, and also to speak with tact and truth.
Dragonfly basically is constantly helping my to tear apart all of my false / limiting beliefs and to stay out of the box. (Oh she says... what box...is there a box?)

Spirit guides? Well, there are tons. Some for personal help and searching. One that helps me with shadowwork. Several that I work with while healing others. A couple that give me guided meditations while I'm leading them in groups. A few that automatic write (one writes great poetry lol). They are of all shapes and sizes. Basically whatever I need to see and hear for what is going on.

I guess that's enough to open... what about you?

Well, having just gotten particularly interested in Shamanism I don't think I really *have* a spirit guide/totem right now. I really want to be able to throw myself at this like I want to but I am busy and I am probably about to get even busier with the prospect of going back to school again! Any suggestions on what to do with myself? LOL

My suggestions and know that these are just suggestions.. the only person who can know what is true and correct for you is YOU. That being said.

IMO we all have guides, it is just that some of us have been utilizing them more than others. The things below may help to open that connections some more.

I would do some meditation with the purpose of asking my power animals or spirit guides, at separate times, to come to me and let me know who or what they are. You can do this just before going to sleep with the intention that they will come into your dreams. You can do it as you start your day, so that you may even see them during your travels that day. Pay attention to the animals that you see around you. What animals do you like...those that you have surrounded yourself with..pictures, statues, stuffed animals, etc...

Try to be aware of the little voice inside your head that tells you things. It could be a guide trying to come through. Helping you when you need it. Like "turn right" and you do and find out there was an accident the other way. Just setting your intention to welcome them into your life will help you to feel them more.

Even when I was the busiest I have ever been and stressed out, it helped to take that time to be with myself and my guides. You can meditate or sit.... You always have the time somewhere or somehow. We just always make excuses... ME TOO... Even a 5 minute bathroom break to just stop and breathe and be alone helps. It is up to you to decide that you want this in your life and to take the actions to get it. That is part of magick and walking the path. In order for things to happen... you need to align your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions. If they are not aligned.. you will not be able to create what you want.

So think about what you thoughts are, what your feelings or desires are, and what your actions are. Are they aligned????

Er ok lots of info here...

I have always loved cats. :-) When I was little I used to always pretend I was one and perch in my tree and just watch people as they passed, lol. What a weirdo.

Well, certianly not that my spiritual life isn't important, because trust me when I tell you it is. It's a very exciting and interesting facet of my life. But right now I am also in the midst of getting organized to go back to school this fall and am also painfully broke... my worries focus a lot on monetary issues...

I'm not sure if that answers your question of my being 'aligned' or not, lol, but I think that was sort of what you were looking for.

I really do want to live this path... not just attend Sabbat celebrations when it is convenient and fun for me. But I do have problems meditating or doing something everyday with my busy, stressful, tiring schedule.
